YULIA BURAS

Film Composer

"From the first time I communicated with [Yulia] I had a feeling I could ask her for music that would fit the tone of my film. Feelings are fine but then she started sending me samples of the music without seeing the scenes. Then, I knew. I knew whatever I asked her, she could and would do. Without question."

Customers' reviews

"I recently worked on a short film project with Yulia where we had extremely tight deadlines. We needed an amazing score for the film and she went above and beyond to get us our dream sounds. Could not recommend her more and can’t wait for the next one!”

Phil Schlieder, film director

"Yulia's music turned my film into something special, adding feelings and sounds that made it truly come to life!"

Jennifer Varenchik, film director

"Yulia's exceptional talent graced my short film, 'Down To Earth,' with an ethereal touch that transformed every frame. Her music complemented the narrative and became an integral part of its soul. Throughout the process, Yulia was incredibly responsive, effortlessly tuning into my vision and gracefully incorporating feedback, resulting in a soundtrack that exceeded my expectations. If you're searching for a composer who can infuse your project with depth and emotion, look no further than Yulia."

Awards

Thank you so much, Horror Haven Film Expo festival, for the best feature film score award for Limbo that I received in May 2024! What an honor!

Limbo

Current Projects

Great news - I just received my first award for the best feature film score! It was granted by the Horror Film Expo festival. I am so honored and touched! Thank you so much, Horror Haven Expo!

Limbo, the horror/trailer feature film I scored, was accepted to Zepstone International Film Awards Festival! It was also screened at LTUE film festival February 16th, 2024 - and previously at Brewevies Cinema Pub, SLC at the red carpet premiere. I was privileged to work with such an amazing team. Horror scores are one of my favorites and contain multiple feelings, often tragedy, and often different music genres, not to mention endless sound effects!

The first video above is my composer's demo reel, made particularly out of this film's scenes. I am often taken as a horror composer, but I write in multiple genres. Even this film alone contains a wide variety of them - horror, thriller, romance, drama, action, mystery - you name it!

The second video is the trailer that was released before the production was completed. Thank you so much for checking it out!

The last (third) video contains some of my favorite excerpts from Limbo. This piece (only two fragments included) stands out on its own not just by being created in black and white, but also by embracing many genres - horror, detective, chase, action, mystery, etc. The entire film includes all of these genres, even with a touch of romance and drama.

Fantastic news - the short film Once in a Lifetime I recently scored has been selected into the Hawai'i International Film Festival! HIFF is a huge festival and it's very exciting! I absolutely love the message of every day heroes that through sacrifices keep working on their dreams.

The Inherited is a short horror film that won the 2nd place and the audience award at the Hawaii Filmmakers' Collective 72-hr challenge in 2023! It was recently screened again at the Halloween event organized by Sofar - and more screening coming up. I'm so privileged to work with the talented crew and to have written this score! “My main goal is to touch the human heart and bring more good into this world.”

What I do

I'm a professional pianist and film composer trained at the Berklee College of Music and based in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. I've written and performed in multiple styles, including choral, instrumental, orchestral, and others in a variety of genres from film scoring to spoken word, religious, classical, modern, and beyond.

I work hand-in-hand with my clients to create the right musical support for their stories. I always keep in mind any direction I'm given, coupling my client's vision with my unique artistic approach. Whether I'm creating a piano piece or a broad orchestration, and in any of my work as a composer, my goal is always to touch human hearts and to bring more good into this world.

My style is distinctly mine. I enjoy creating strong, moving harmonic support under beautiful melodic structures and creating evocative soundscapes. I believe the right arrangement and approach can strongly affect the listener and touch their heart.
